NOTE: While browsing around within the net, I have stumbled upon many mistakes that other compilers made within the section Hidden Secrets, stripping away its title as one of the most popular attractions of the game. For those of you who can't get even a trick such as getting Brad Vickers to appear, or simply could not achieve an A ranking even after beating the game in 2 hours and 12 minutes, this section is a compile of all internet database of RE 2 secrets, where in which were revised and verified to be working correctly for purposes of preserving your sanity. |

THE
RANKING SYSTEM
When you beat the game on either scenario
with Leon or Claire, you are given a ranking from A to E. The game bases the ranking
on several factors, including how long you took to finish, whether or not you used any
special weapons (a special weapon is defined as any one of the three Infinite Weapons
described in sections below), whether or not you used any Health Spray, and how many times
you saved your game. Previously, many had claimed that A ranking can be achieved by
beating the game under 3 hours. I've personally verified that an A ranking can ONLY
be reached in beating the game under 2 1/2 hours, which means even a record of 2 hours 29
seconds 59 mili-seconds would still count as an A; a B ranking is 3 - 5 hours; a C ranking
is 5 - 7 hours, and a D ranking is over 7 hours. However, your ranking is lowered
by one if you used any special weapons, a certain number of Health Sprays, and/or if
you save more than 12 times. E is the lowest ranking possible.
Consider the followings: RANKING SYSTEM Limit down on the following if you want good rankings: - Time Finish - A = LESS than 2 1/2 hours; B = 2 1/2 - 5 hours; C = 5 - 7 hours; D = over 7 hours - Special Infinite Weapons - lower ranking by 1 for each weapon used - Health Sprays - a MUST-AVOID to even use 1 Health Spray if u want an A rankind - Saves - debate of 6 saves or 12 saves will lower ranking by 1 |

HUNK Your mission is simple but quite challenging: Achieve an A ranking on either 2nd scenario (see above for details on how to get an A ranking). After you beat the game and the A ranking screen appears, you'll be given the option to save a game with a normal character (possibly with infinite weapons). But then, the real fun begins; you'll also be able to save a game featuring "another scenario," which means HUNK! Hunk starts out in the sewers, and his task is to escape the R.P.D. with the G Virus. He must get to the roof, where he'll be able to call an Umbrella helicopter to get him the hell out of there. See TOFU & HUNK WALKTHROUGHS for some tactics to help you survive, thrive, and conquer. |

TOFU Tofu is the strangest secret in the game by far. He's literally a giant block of tofu (in case you don't know, tofu is fermented bean curd, a staple of food in Japan) who squeaks when he walks, sweats profusely when he runs, and turns purplish-pink when he's damaged. He also spouts out amusing Japanese expressions. In order to play as Tofu, you must beat six scenarios (three complete games) in a row, and obtain Hunk along the way. This means: You must beat a 1st scenario, then the 2nd scenario, then the 1st scenario, then the 2nd scenario again, then the 1st scenario again, and finally, the 2nd scenario again. (At the end of the first or second 2nd scenario, you must get Hunk.) Be sure to save the game at the end of each scenario, so you're continuing the same game you originally started. Tofu is given the virtually impossible task of surviving Hunk's scenario with the knife as his only weapon. WHAT?! Why?! My theory is Capcom included this bizarre character to challenge (more like torture) all the Japanese gamers you beat RE 1 in under 2 hours with just a knife. (It's true; dozens of them sent in tapes to Japanese game mags to prove it. It became a crazy fad!) |

SPECIAL
INFINITE WEAPONS
Infinite weapons are a special reward for
skilled RE 2 players. If you beat the 1st scenario with an A or B Ranking in under 2
1/2 hours, you get an Infinite Rocket Launcher. In the 2nd scenario, there are two
possibilities. If you simply beat the 2nd mission with an A or B ranking in under 3
hours, you get the Infinite Submachine Gun. If you beat the 2nd mission with an A or
B ranking in under 2 1/2 hours, you get an Infinite Rocket Launcher, Submachine Gun, AND
the awesome Gatling Gun! Let 'er rip!
The screw-ups and requirements that never made it to the headlines:
- All Infinite Special Weapons above
are available only on NORMAL difficulties
- To get all three special weapons in the 2nd mission, your ranking
MUST be an A and completion time under 2 1/2 hours. A B, even if it was under 2 1/2
hours, won't do at all.
Consider the following: SPECIAL INFINITE WEAPONS - All Special Infinite Weapons are available only in NORMAL difficulty - Infinite Rocket Launcher - beat 1st mission with A or B Ranking under 2 1/2 hours - Infinite Submachine Gun - beat 2nd mission with A or B Ranking under 3 hours - Infinite Submachine Gun, Rocket Launcher, and Gatling Gun - beat 2nd mission with A Ranking under 2 1/2 hours |

BRAD VICKERS Right off the bat, many compilers claimed that you must beat the complete game (1st and 2nd mission) in able for the zombie pictured here to make his appearance. Fortunately, the programmers spared us our lives and NOT made it a requirement for you to complete one full game to get this zombie to appear. In addition, many compilers also have forgotten the fundamental factor that is required for almost all the secrets in RE 2 to work, and that is the difficulty setting. To make his zombie appear, simply begin a game (a brand new game is acceptable too) on NORMAL. Play through from beginning without picking up ANY items. When you reach the R.P.D. gate, take the lower stairs around the Police Department's front yard. Assuming you haven't picked up a single item, in the lower section you will encounter a special zombie wearing camouflage and an orange vest. Say "hi" to Brad Vickers, who you might recall as the pilot of the chopper that airlifted Chris and Jill out of Resident Evil 1. Time has not treated him kindly, but at least he's no ordinary zombie. He's super powered and takes far more hits to kill than any other zombie. Which, of course, is a pain in the tuckus when you haven't been picking up any items. You can try to kill him now with a combination of your limited Handgun ammo (not nearly enough shots to kill him) and your Knife (uhh, good luck), but a better idea is to pass him and head into R.P.D., grab a Shotgun (in the S.T.A.R.S. room), and come back for him. (Once you've made Brad appear, you can feel free to grab any items you want, and when you return, he'll still be waiting for you.) Like any zombie, Brad's susceptible to a close, one-hit shotgun decap if you aim up at his head. However, if you're feeling REALLY saucy, the coolest way to dispatch Brad is to get him so he's facing you, then walk slowly back so that he'll lung at your feet, and you can kill him with a single boot smash. It costs you no ammo, you only take 1/8 of your health in damage, and you don't have to waste time searching for weapons and returning. This method requires a bit of practice and patience but it's sooo worth it. Dispatch Brad with any of these techniques, search his corpse, and you'll be rewarded with the Special Key, which can be used to unlock the secret costumes (see below). (NOTE: To fight Brad Vickers in the 2nd scenario, you must have encountered him in the 1st scenario. He'll still be hanging in the same area. Don't worry, you can pick up items along the way!) |

SPECIAL COSTUMES Once you've obtained the Special Key from Brad Vickers as described above, take the key to the R.P.D.'s first floor west wing save point, located below the stairs. Inside that room (which is known as the "darkroom" if you save there), you will find a locker. Use the Special Spoon Key Voila! You are SO money! With Leon, you'll get a choice of two new costumes. No matter which costume you choose, you'll look like a total badass, plus you'll gain the new and awesome ability to fire the Handgun one-handed. Your one-handed gun action is twice as fast as usual! Clair gets only one new costume, but she also gains the Colt S.A.A. gun. This weapon will give you a taste of the wild west, as Claire fires it gunslinger style, holding the pistol from the hip and fanning the hammer with the palm of her hand. Not only does this look awesome, but she pumps outbullets at more than twice the rate of the normal Handgun. The Colt's only drawback: it only holds six shots (but reloads ULTRA fast!). now she's just like Susanah from the Gunslinger, except not crippled, not black, and not schizophretic! This reference in honor of Mateo. Thank you. (Note: If you change clothes in the 1st scenario, that character will still be wearing the new outfit in the other's 2nd scenario. Also, if you encounter Brad in both scenarios, you'll get the key twice.) |

1-HIT
GATOR KILL
Here's a secret trick to kill the Gator
boss. (Why is this here? Just becuase!) When he starts advancing on you,
you'll notice a yellow light on the left wall. Search
it and a canister will fall to the ground. When the gator chomps
down on the gas canister, shoot the canister and the Gator will explode into bloody chunks! Anyone seen Jaws?

KILL THE CAMERA This trick supposedly works for every location, but the two best locations are pointed out here. For the first location, take the east exit out of the basement, and go to the area with two dogs and a manhole in it. Stand with your back to the manhole, walk forward from the manhole until the camera changes angles, then face the camera and fire with the Shotgun. You might have to tweak the aim a bit. The second location is located at the Moth Room, where the camera changes angles when you stand next to the computer. At this point, aim your Shotgun straight at the forescreen and start your hole punching! |

REBECCA CHAMBERS HOOPIN' PIC When you first enter the S.T.A.R.S. office on the second floor, head left and you will notice a poster on the wall next to the two shelves. In front of that poster is an office desk. Search that desk. The game will display "There's nothing but useless paperworks" or of similar messages. Keep on searching. When you hit about 50 times (I'd lost my counts by then, but that's what all other sources says), you will find a roll of film. Take it to the Darkroom below under the stairs and develop it out and Voila! What do we have here? A terrific pic of Rebecca in a clad tiny basketball jersey and shorts! Wait until RE 3 comes out, then we'll find Jill in a shower scene! - hint hint :) |
